I’ve been following a plant-based diet for 10 years. I use the term “plant-based” because my transition to veganism was gradual, particularly with phasing out egg whites and cheese. I began by eliminating chicken, then red meat, fish, and finally eggs and cheese. This transition didn’t happen overnight—it was a journey that required learning what to buy at the grocery store to replace the foods I enjoyed and relied on daily. It took preparation and a strategic plan to combat decision fatigue.
I feel that many people are deterred by aspects of the vegan community that leave little room for error during this transition. The attitude can often seem black and white: you’re either vegan or you’re not—and if you’re not, you’re failing. I find this approach problematic. Although I would love for everyone to avoid unnecessary harm to animals, the planet, and themselves, I recognize that everyone is at a different point in their journey. My hope is that when you visit our site, you feel inspired to incorporate more plant-based foods into your diet.
